News & Updates
August 14, 2017,
Wow what a summer. It took simply ages for winter to leave...then one of the wettest springs ever with flooding and high water concerns everywhere....then when it stopped raining it totally stopped for almost 2 months....so we have had the worse fire season ever. It has been such an odd year that it has impacted my studio work. There has been a bit of slow down there...will be picking up that pace now. The continual smoke has been both alarming and oppressive. My heart aches for all of those in the fire ravaged areas. Sending them prayers for safe return to their home and rain, lots of rain. it did rain the other day and hopefully more soon.

It has been hot and dry here for the last few weeks....causing the paint to dry faster than I like in the studio. Makes for some adjustments in how I paint. Working on some commissions. Keep an eye on Facebook - Valerie Rogers Paintings for the studio weekly updates. Happy Summer!

Just spent Saturday at the Courtyard Gallery in Enderby BC, It is filled with a wonderful local art. Everything from jewelry (even some of mine) to glass art, wood work and of course paintings in a wide range of styles. If you are out for a drive it is open 10-4;00 Monday to Saturday. This is a group of the friendliest and talented artists. I will be restocking as I am down to only one painting available but will be bringing in more as soon as I can.

Just finished a small painting of the little yellow daisy that dot the hillsides above Kamloops and Chase. A google search tells me that they are called Arrowleaf Balsamroot flowers. A hike a couple of weeks ago there filled my mind & heart with these happy flowers....so just had to paint them as protection for a wee wild rabbit. Will post this painting soon...or check it out on facebook - Valerie Rogers Paintings.

Well it has been such a wet spring here in Salmon Arm. Days and Days of rain. As I am writing this it is simply pouring...the water is running everywhere. Mud slides on the road etc. We are all so eager for the sunshine to finally arrive. But it does make for lots of studio time....just working on chipmunk painting and planning another. Have a great day.

Well I have been away from the studio for two weeks and really looking forward to getting back to it. My Oversize River painting is basically done and I am in the reflecting stage with it....just looking at it now and then to see what if anything I would like to change. Will post it soon. Now starting on a flying swan painting that has exciting shades of white that hopefully will sing against a very neutral gray sky. This painting idea feels kind of joyous.

Well is it that time of the year when I look forward and make plans for what new and exciting things will be happening in the studio. So many great ideas that sometimes it is hard to narrow it down to just a few....so working on the goals. Will update you when they all become clear to me. Have a wonderful day.

OUch...it is cold, we were -25 this morning....the sun is out now but it is not warm....studio pellet stove is working hard to keep up....I am in here but still feeling more than a bit chilly. Not a good day for starting a new painting...hard to maintain any focus, when all I want is a warm drink. Hope you are all staying warm.

It is a time of year when I give thanks for the special people in my life...my wonderful family and fantastic friends. Each of them brings so much to my life and I am filled with gratitude for them. They are the framework within which I live and I feel so lucky to have them. Also to be able to create my artwork and share my love for nature and its creatures is a gift that I appreciate so much. I hope that through my artwork you can see that love and that it brings joy into your life as well. My heartfelt thanks is also given to those that collect my artwork for their homes and offices. Your purchases help to fuel the fire that drives my paint brush to dance over the canvas.

I am very pleased to be featured in the International Artist Magazine in the August/September issue. It is a wonderful art magazine that looks at art and artists all around the world. Such a pleasure to have 8 pages of my artwork and artistic process in this prestigious magazine. There even is a small photo of me working on one of my large paintings on the front cover of this issue (top right hand corner.) The inside article shares my wildlife art and gives a step by step creation process for two of my paintings.
